The original Ood heads were made in foam latex with silicone tentacles, the lightweight foam making it possible for them to be worn for long periods of filming. Foam latex degrades quickly however, is much less durable and would therefore not be an appropriate material to make a replica product from.

The tentacles were originally made from silicone and thus the first generation latex moulds are used to produce the replicas.

The eyes are hand painted plastic hemispheres, made in exactly the same way as the originals with materials and products from the same suppliers.

The replicas are made and hand painted using the exact processes developed to paint the screen-used pieces. Identical colours are applied each time, but as they’re hand painted the finish varies slightly from head to head making each replica unique in the same way the originals were.
