Demon Character Prosthetic by Loup'Rah Garomore, USA

14 Dec 2011

This fabulous demon character 'Dimwos' was created with the help of Neill's DVDs....

Loup'Rah Garomore says, "Watching these DVDs is like having Neill there in your studio with you. It's a master class from start to finish. The level of instructional detail is so meticulous and completely straight forward. It's unbeatable. Best damn instructional DVDs I've come across."

SEVERED HAND BY PETER BUTLER

29 Nov 2011

Peter says "I found your 'Creating Character Prosthetics in Silicone' a great aid in helping me create a severed hand. I've never had the opportunity to create prosthetics before, but it's something I've always wanted to do since I was a child.

These pictures show my results. Far from perfect but I was more than happy with it. I also created a blog on how I went about it....it also shows a lot of the mistakes I made:  Blog Part 1   Blog Part 2

Thanks for your easy to follow tutoring, I look forward to my next challenge which hopefully will be making a severed head!"

Old Age Make-Up by Fito Dellibarda

10 Aug 2011

Old age make-up made by Fito Dellibarda in 2008, for the Portuguese magician Luis de Matos. This was based on Neill’s DVD series “Creating Character Prosthetics in Silicone,” and was for a hidden camera trick in Luis de Mato’s magic TV show.

The audience didn’t suspect for any moment that Luis was wearing silicone prosthetics... in fact, the technicians on the show thought for a long time that the old wizard was a guest!!

Voldemort by Kieran Thomas

10 Aug 2011

Kieran is a member of UK costuming club the UK Garrison www.ukgarrison.co.uk and created this for their sister club, Reel Icons They raise money for children's charities and have raised over £1 million pounds so far. This piece which is (to the best of their knowledge) the 1st ever attempt at a "movie accurate" version will help with the fundraising and took 3 years to complete.

The nose was digitally removed in the film which added to the challenge of creating a prosthetic to copy it. Kieran has this to say about how he used the DVDs for this project:

"Hi Neill, I just wanted to write to say thank you so much for your wonderful DVD titled "Creating Character Prosthetics in Silicone".

I'm not a special effects professional, nor have I ever attempted any kind of prosthetic before (I'm not even an arty person at the best of times), so to say I was a little daunted at the prospect of needing to create a full head prosthetic would be an understatement.

However, your DVD proved invaluable!

The way you presented the content was so easy for a newbie such as myself to follow. What was especially great is that you didn't just say "you need to do this"... but you went on to say why things were done a certain way. I also loved the fact that you were so free and open with so many tips along the way. These really helped prevent me from learning things the hard way.

I honestly can't thank you enough. I'd highly recommend your DVDs for anyone thinking of tackling prosthetics for the first time, or for someone just getting into the field and I've already recommended it to a number of friends. The only thing is, now I want to check out your Lifecasting DVD too!

Kieran Thomas (Oxfordshire)"

These shots show Kieran working on the sculpt, a close-up of the texturing, the finished sculpt, a comparison of the actual character in the film and the prosthetic copy taken part way through the build (ears and robes photoshopped), plus of course the finished piece complete with costume!

Zombie FX by Darren Grassby of 2 Baldies FX

09 Aug 2011

Three pieces by Darren inspired by Neill’s DVDS:

  1. "Black Zombie Dude" - a full Platgel custom fit mask sculpted in "Le Beau Touche" on a urethane lifecast, and moulded in 3 parts as shown in the DVDs. It was bolted together then injected with Platgel through the pour tube running up through the lifecast. Seamed/painted with Fuse FX/FW paints and oil paints thinned with white spirit.

  2. A generic flat piece/scrape over Platgel "Ripped off” lips and mouth appliance, made for the web series "Zomblogalypse"

  3. A prosthetic Platgel full ‘over the head’ custom fit "Zombie old age" mask, complete with Darren’s own zombie custom fit teeth and some weird blue/black contact lenses.

Katharina Grethlein and Philipp Rathgeber of Open Mind FX say, “The DVDs are great. They are easy to follow and very informative. Best of all, not only every step is shown but it´s always explained why you are doing things, so you can easily use the shown techniques for other projects."

This selection of pieces is a female to male gender and age swap, a severe surgical scarring make-up and a fantasy bird. For more of their work please go to www.openmindfx.com
